The record feature turns the meter into a shooting notebook. Every recorded frame keeps not just the numbers but the picture they were read from — so when the film comes back, you can put the negative next to what you metered.
Open it from Rolls & Memos in the ☰ menu, or from the Record and Rolls buttons at the bottom of the offline calculator.
Recording a frame
Tap Record in offline mode. The record sheet asks for:
- Save to — Roll, as a numbered frame on a film roll, or Memo, as a standalone note belonging to no roll.
- Roll & Frame — an existing active roll or a new one, then the frame number. Frames you have already recorded are marked with a checkmark, so overwriting one is a choice rather than an accident.
- Exposure — a read-only summary of ISO, EV, f, SS and any active exposure compensation, filters, bellows or reciprocity. It is what you are about to save, shown before you save it.
- Location — the current coordinates, if you have granted location access. Without that permission everything else still records.
Saving stores the whole frame: the snapshot image, its heatmap, zone map and histogram, the spot positions, the EV readings, and every exposure setting.
Browsing
The Rolls & Memos screen has two tabs.
Rolls — your Active and Archived rolls. Each row shows the name, recorded and total frame counts, the roll format and the film. Swipe a roll to Close/Reopen or Delete; tap it to see its frames; + creates a new one.
Memos — standalone frames, newest first, each with a thumbnail and its EV, ISO, aperture and shutter speed. Swipe to delete, tap to open.
Tapping a frame opens it in full: the snapshot with the heatmap, histogram and spot meters toggleable over it, the settings it was shot at, and — if a location was saved — a tappable line that opens Apple Maps at that point.

Frame limits of 12, 24, 36, 72 or unlimited are available, for short-loaded rolls and bulk film.
Roll and frame data is shared on the device with the companion YsEvCalculator app, so a frame recorded in one is visible in the other.
